Modern-day Macho Man: The reaction to CM Punk's tribute to Randy Savage didn't go unnoticed by Mattel.

When Randy Savage passed away suddenly this year, CM Punk honored one of his childhood inspirations by wearing ring attire similar to the trademark gear of the Macho Man on an episode of Monday Night RAW.

Punk has since added Savage’s big elbow from the top rope to his repertoire, usually resulting in appreciative longtime fans chanting Randy’s name at live events.

The figures are nice and all, but CM Punk still wants his own ice-cream bar.

At the recent Ringside Fest 2011 in New York City, Mattel revealed a Savage/Punk action-figure two-pack to commemorate the gestures.

Reports wwe.com:

“I’m completely floored by this,” explained The Straight Edge Superstar as he, for the first time, beheld both Randy Savage and Punk figures in near-matching attire. “I certainly didn’t wear the Macho Man gear to get a figure out of it. It was my homage to him after he passed away. I think we have to remember and celebrate our past.”

Examining his own miniature plastic replica in pink tights with white stars, Punk expressed his humble emotions after seeing the two-piece set, which will be available in stores everywhere in 2012.

“I wore this outfit one time on Raw and it’s immortalized forever. It’s pretty gangster.”

The former champions will be packaged with the classic WWF "Winged Eagle" title belt.

Dig it!

As he’s done in the past, CM Punk again honored the memory of the late Randy “Macho Man” Savage, who appeared on the very first SummerSlam card in 1988, with a flying elbow smash from the top rope Sunday, seemingly crushing John Cena’s Superman chest in their “Undisputed” champion vs. champion match.

As if on cue, a very vocal chant of “Randy Savage, Randy Savage!” broke out in the Staples Center from the fans who recognized the trademark finisher of the most macho–if not the greatest–superstar in WWF history. Very cool moment.

Of course, the announcers (the “rehired” Jim Ross was sorely missed), including Jerry Lawler, who had taken plenty of Savage elbows over the years dating back to their Memphis days, completely ignored the moment. Booker T has a pass, as he had already exhausted every possible cliche at that moment so he was too busy inventing new ones in his head. Can’t believe Cole didn’t mark out with a “vintage Randy Savage” comment, but Vince McMahon probably screamed in his headset to avoid doing so.

Breaking news: John Cena is ‘poopy’

Gotta love the exchange on “The Jimmy Kimmel Show” between CM Punk and this little boy, who refuses to acknowledge that the WWE strap is a championship title and not a belt–illustrating how silly the supposed ban on the word “belt” (as dictated by Vince McMahon) from all WWE programming really is. And judging from the way this kid predicted the following Monday’s RAW scenario, with John Cena regaining the title from Rey Mysterio to set up a Punk vs. Cena showdown at SummerSlam, he must be a member of the WWE creative team–or at least maybe he should be. I’ve been saying for years now while watching RAW, “Who’s booking this crap? A 6-year-old could do a better job!”
