YouTube Finds: Sid Vicious isn’t so tough when you’ve got the King by your side

March 23rd, 2011 No comments

Most of you know the story of how Sid Vicious threatened to tear off my head after I jokingly made some rather cutting remarks about the “incident” (a euphemism if there ever was one) with Arn Anderson that cost him the NWA/WCW titles and his job with the Turner wrestling company.

I got my revenge after Lawler lost the Unified World title to Sid, a replacement for Jake Roberts, who fell off the wagon en route to Memphis at a bar in the Atlanta Airport and failed to show for his Friday night title match. After a rigorous two-day training program under my supervision at the Q Sports Club in Memphis, the King reclaimed his crown Monday night…and saved our hair in the process. (And you thought Tommy “Wildfire” Rich had a short reign as NWA World champion…Sid was master of the world for barely four days.)

For your Oscar consideration: Kurt Angle, Sid Vicious, Kevin Nash star in “River of Darkness” DVD

Who needs a gun when you've got the Angle slam and ankle-lock in your arsenal?

The film “River of Darkness,” starring Kurt Angle, Kevin Nash and Sid Vicious, will be released directly to DVD on March 29. The plot sounds like something Vince Russo might have cooked up: Small-town Sheriff Logan, aka “Sheriff Without a Shirt” (Kurt Angle), investigates a murder spree committed by deceased giant brothers (guess who): slow-moving, zombie-like creatures (brilliant casting) who have risen from the dead 30 years after townsfolk conducted their own brand of vigilante Sid Justice. Based on a true story.

Powerbusted: Former WWE champion Sid Vicious arrested for possession of marijuana

High spot: Sid, shortly after his arrest.

Former World Wrestling Entertainment champion Sid Eudy, better known as Sid Vicious, was pulled over Sunday night in South Memphis for not wearing a seat belt when officers noticed 18 grams of pot in a baggy in an armrest. Eudy was promptly arrested. (Thankfully, no scissors were found on his person.)

Reports WREG-TV: Eudy, who lives in Marion, Arkansas, was pulled over by police officers at South Third and Brooks for not wearing a seatbelt, but they also busted him for possessing pot. Police apparently noticed a bag containing 18 grams of marijuana sitting on his armrest. Eudy was charged with marijuana possession, driving without a license and not wearing a seat belt in the high- profile arrest of a former wrestling superstar.

Jerry Lawler said, “I’ve known Sid for many years.  There were not many who were more imposing that had a better look than Sid Vicious. He was basically a really good guy and an easygoing guy, even though that’s not the persona you think of Sid Vicious-a big kind of scary guy. He did what he did well on the local scene in Memphis and when he went up to WWE and did well there, and he wrestled overseas. From what I understand this wasn’t a big amount. It’s for his personal use.”

All that pot certainly explains why Sid was always so mellow, so friendly backstage in my experiences with the big guy. According to reader John Keating, police have still not been confirmed or denied the presence of a squeegee at the scene.
